Message from Mom

So, little Hayley is just over 5 weeks old. It has all gone so fast!!

She is doing well! She has put on around 300 grams a week [which is excellent!!] and now weighs 3.64kgs. She has grown around 8 cm in length.

Dave used the expression "the light is coming on inside" which indeed it is. Every day she is more alert, her eyes are more responsive, she displays more emotion and she is "just becoming her". She is starting to be her own little person. It is wonderful. She is precious and sweet and we could not ask for a better child.

Mom and dad are doing well! I think if I had to relate back on the last 5 weeks I would say 2 things -

First: There is no right and wrong. The books, people, will all give you an idea and a foundation but will not be a perfect fit. You have to just go with it, trust your instinct and your heart, and you will find your way. Every child is different and you have to find the right path for you and your child I think... Just going with the situation and taking one day at a time makes the journey wonderful.

Second: Things just settle. The first two weeks are a blur of nappies, boob, segmented sleep and then… it all just settles.. and things start falling into place. She has just settled into life. We have just settled into parenthood. We now have a good understanding of one another, we have a good routine, we are better at doing certain things, we can read the situation better and there is just a nice wheel in motion and gratitude for every single day.

I still stare at her every day and cannot believe that she is ours, something so beautiful and perfect. There is a wonderful shift in focus and a great appreciation for life and the ever revealing meaning of what it is actually all about.
